About the role
Pay: $29.00 - $34.00 (BOE)
Schedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00am - 4:30pm | Occasional Overtime
Location: 1227 North Tustin Ave, Anaheim, CA 92807
Johnson Plumbing is hiring a Payroll & AP Specialist to run accurate, on-time payroll for the field and office teams of Johnson Plumbing and our sister company, JP Prime Inc., a commercial service plumbing company. You will own the weekly payroll cycle from timecard to paycheck, with a strong focus on California wage-and-hour compliance. You will also support accounts payable, keeping supplier invoices and vendor payments accurate and on schedule.
Our crews work across multiple job sites, so payroll here means job costing, overtime, and meal and rest premiums — not just processing hours. You will work closely with HR, accounting, field supervisors, and our suppliers to get it right every week. This is a full-time, on-site, hourly position based in Anaheim, with no supervisory responsibilities.
What you’ll do
Payroll
- Process weekly payroll for field and office employees of both companies, including hourly and salaried.
- Review and reconcile timecards with field supervisors; correct job and cost code allocations before payroll closes.
- Verify calculated California overtime and double time, including the regular rate of pay (weighted-average overtime) for employees with multiple rates or bonuses.
- Apply meal and rest period premiums and other wage-and-hour requirements accurately.
- Process new hires, terminations, final paychecks, pay changes, garnishments, and deductions on time.
- Answer employees pay questions clearly and keep payroll records confidential and audit ready.
- Help maintain and improve payroll procedures and internal documentation.
- Year-end review of employee W-2s for accuracy.
Accounts payable support
- Enter approved supplier invoices to the correct company, jobs, and cost codes.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve missing invoices, credits, and duplicate charges.
- Help prepare weekly check runs and vendor payments.
- Maintain vendor records, including Certificates of Insurance, W-9s, and 1099 information.
- Answer vendor questions about invoice and payment status.
Requirements
What you need

- Strong Excel skills: lookups, pivot tables, and reconciling large data sets.
- High attention to detail and the ability to meet a fixed weekly deadline.
- Sound judgment with confidential information.
- Clear, friendly communication with field crews, supervisors, and office staff.
- Nice to have
- Payroll experience in construction or the trades.
- Certified payroll experience (DIR, LCPtracker, or similar).
