State & Local Tax (SALT) Senior Associate

We are currently seeking a State & Local Tax (SALT) Senior to join our Carmel, IN tax practice.

As a State and Local Tax (SALT) Senior, you will help organizations navigate multi-state tax complexities, identify planning opportunities, and deliver practical business solutions. This position provides the platform to deepen your specialized technical expertise while collaborating closely with team members and clients across diverse industries.

Position Details

Provide state and local tax consulting services related to income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and personal property taxes. You will analyze multi-state tax positions and recommend strategic solutions to manage client liabilities.

Prepare and review state and local income and franchise tax returns. In this capacity, you will ensure full compliance with multi-jurisdictional filing requirements and identify technical considerations.

Research complex state and local tax matters and compose clear, authoritative technical memoranda. You will evaluate statutes, administrative rulings, and court decisions to address client questions.

Monitor state legislative and regulatory updates to author timely internal and client-facing tax alerts. These publications will highlight emerging tax developments, planning techniques, and statutory changes.

Cultivate strong, professional relationships with clients and staff at all organizational levels. You will participate actively in client meetings and translate technical tax analysis into actionable business guidance.

Expand your knowledge of state and local taxation as well as the federal tax rules that impact state filings. You will take advantage of ongoing firm-sponsored training to continually advance your technical skillset.

Position Requirements

CPA Certification or eligible and actively pursuing certification.

3+ years of State & Local tax experience in a public accounting firm.

Proven financial, analytical, technical and interpersonal skills.

Excellent client service and the desire to build business development skills.

Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage engagements, prioritize engagements and supervise/motivate staff.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to travel to client locations, mostly day trips; minimal overnight travel is required.
