Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

American United is hiring Senior Engineers to design, build, and deploy cloud-based data and application solutions. You’ll work primarily in Python on Azure, with Databricks and modern DevOps practices, and you’ll use AI-assisted developer tools to deliver high-quality software faster. Some positions also involve Java and Spring Boot or machine learning workloads.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Python applications and data pipelines
• Build and manage data solutions using Databricks and Delta Lake
• Deploy and operate workloads on Azure (Azure ML, Azure Container Apps) or IBM Cloud / IKS, depending on the team
• Write and optimize SQL queries and shell scripts to support data processing and automation
• Develop and maintain Java / Spring Boot services (select positions)
• Build and train machine learning models with TensorFlow (select positions)
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and GitHub Actions
• Use AI-assisted developer tools to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery speed
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile team ceremonies
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, and document solutions and best practices

Required Qualifications

• Strong, hands-on experience with Python development
• Experience with Azure cloud technologies (Azure ML, Azure Container Apps) or IBM Cloud / IKS
• Working knowledge of Databricks and Delta Lake
• Proficiency in SQL and shell scripting
• Experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions for source control and CI/CD
• Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Java and Spring Boot

• Experience with TensorFlow and ML model development or deployment
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Azure Container Apps, Kubernetes / IKS)
• Familiarity with additional Azure services relevant to data and ML workloads

Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams

Work Location

On-site or hybrid in Phoenix, AZ or Fort Worth, TX. Confirm the work arrangement with the hiring team.
