You will combine maritime understanding, people expertise and sound judgement to manage complex people matters, strengthen our seafarer pipeline and help ensure we have the right capabilities available to meet operational needs.

You will have particular responsibility for senior ranks and act as a trusted advisor on complex and sensitive people matters. Working closely with seafarers, Marine People colleagues, Crewing, Training and other stakeholders, you will use operational insight and people data to identify risks, develop solutions and continuously improve how we support our seafarers.

Key Responsibilities

Seafarer advisory and people management

  • Act as a trusted point of contact for senior-rank seafarers throughout their employment journey.
  • Manage people matters end-to-end, including Seafarer Employment Agreements, sign-off conversations, performance management, career development, disciplinary matters, resignations and retirement.
  • Manage sensitive welfare, medical and family-related cases, including paternity/maternity matters, repatriation, Next of Kin contact and family assistance, with empathy, confidentiality and sound judgement.
  • Take ownership of complex or escalated cases, identify risks and recommend appropriate actions, with disciplinary outcomes subject to the required approval.

Seafarer pool, career and succession management

  • Monitor the health and readiness of the seafarer pool, including pool size, availability, pipeline readiness and emerging gaps.
  • Support promotion planning, ensuring officers with development or promotion potential are appropriately identified, visible and followed up.
  • End to end planning and execution of training required in the seafarer’s lifecycle.
  • Use workforce data and operational insights to identify risks and recommend practical actions.
  • Provide proactive insights into the future seafarer pool by assessing current parameters, identifying emerging challenges, and recommending actionable solutions to strengthen workforce readiness.

Stakeholder partnership

  • Partner with Marine People, Crewing, Training, Fleet safety and fleet operations to understand fleet requirements and translate them into practical people actions.
  • Participate in pool discussions and provide people insights to support effective decision-making.

Coaching and continuous improvement

  • Coach and support Marine People Advisors in handling complex situations and strengthening professional judgement.
  • Align with Senior Marine People Manager on operational tasks and advise on critical matters.
  • Share knowledge and practical experience across the team and support the onboarding and development of colleagues.
  • Lead and contribute to improvements that strengthen efficiency, consistency and the seafarer experience.

Seafarer care and operational support

  • Help safeguard the welfare and mental wellbeing of seafarers and provide support during significant career, family or emergency situations.
  • Participate in the duty-phone schedule as required.
  • Contribute to assigned projects and broader Marine People priorities.

What we are looking for

  • We welcome candidates with strong maritime people experience gained in a seagoing and/or shore-based environment.
  • Typically, 10–15 years of relevant maritime experience across seafaring, Marine People, crewing, maritime HR or related maritime operations. Candidates with a different combination of experience who demonstrate the required capabilities and industry knowledge are equally encouraged to apply.
  • Strong understanding of seafarer careers, shipboard operations and the maritime crewing environment.
  • Experience managing complex people, performance, welfare or operational matters requiring sound judgement and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently, influence stakeholders and provide well-considered recommendations.
  • A relevant degree, maritime or professional qualification, or equivalent practical experience.

Maritime and digital capability

  • Working knowledge of the seafarer lifecycle and relevant maritime requirements, including STCW and MLC 2006.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel, with confidence using data to identify trends, monitor risks and support decision-making.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled tools, workflow automation or process automation would be an advantage.

You will thrive in this role if you

  • Build trust and collaborate effectively with seafarers, colleagues and stakeholders across cultures, functions and geographies.

  • Take ownership while recognizing when to seek input or escalate.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically, including in difficult conversations.
  • Enjoy coaching others and sharing knowledge.
  • Handle sensitive information with integrity and discretion.
