AECOM is seeking an IT/OT Advisor to join our Advisory team, helping clients across transport, water, energy, buildings and the wider built environment to plan, secure and run the technology that underpins their operations. As the boundary between corporate IT and operational technology continues to blur, the IT/OT Advisor will play a critical role in helping clients modernise safely: converging systems, strengthening cyber resilience and improving how technology is operated day to day.
This is a fully client-facing role. You will lead advisory engagements, work across AECOM's business lines to identify opportunities, and help shape and win large digital transformation programmes. Our ambition is to deliver these programmes end to end, with our own capability to design, deliver and operate technology for our clients rather than relying on third-party systems integrators.
Client Advisory
·Lead client engagements across IT, OT and cyber security, from current-state and maturity assessments through to target architectures, operating models, roadmaps and business cases.
- Advise clients on IT/OT convergence, including architecture, network segmentation, data flows between enterprise and control systems, and shared governance between IT and engineering teams.
·Assess and improve cyber security posture across corporate and operational environments, aligned to standards and frameworks such as IEC 62443, NIST CSF, ISO/IEC 27001 and the NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework.
·Advise on technology operating models, service management, sourcing strategy and the move from legacy estates to cloud and hybrid environments.
·Support clients through programme mobilisation and delivery assurance, acting as a trusted advisor to CIOs, CISOs, operations directors and engineering leads.
·Translate complex technical risks and options into clear, decision-ready advice for executive and non-technical audiences, with safety and service continuity always in view.
Technology and Delivery Scope
Advice will span the full range of capability AECOM is building, so you will need the breadth to engage credibly in each area and to know when to bring in specialists:
·Application development: advising on custom software delivery, including front-end and back-end development, low-code solutions on Microsoft Power Platform, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and test and quality assurance.
·ERP and enterprise systems: advising on ERP strategy, selection and implementation, business systems, data migration and the integration of enterprise platforms with each other and with operational systems.
·Cyber security: advising on cyber implementation across IT and OT, including security architecture, identity and access management, security operations, and OT security for control systems.
·IT operations: advising on service management, IT support models, service desk design and the transition of services between providers.
·OT and industrial systems: advising on SCADA and industrial control system modernisation, IoT and telemetry, and the secure flow of operational data into the enterprise.
·Cloud and infrastructure: advising on cloud strategy and migration, hybrid hosting, network design and resilient infrastructure.
·Solution architecture: setting the end-to-end architecture for client programmes so that applications, data, infrastructure and security fit together.
Business Development and Bids
- ·Work across AECOM's business lines to identify where clients have IT, OT, security and operational needs, and bring the right AECOM capability to them.
- ·Shape opportunities, lead solution development and contribute technical and commercial content to bids, from early client engagement through to proposal, presentation and negotiation.
- ·Develop the solution and delivery approach for large digital transformation pursuits, positioning AECOM to lead them as prime contractor.
- ·Build and maintain senior client relationships, growing a pipeline of advisory and delivery work and contributing to account plans.
- ·Develop offerings, case studies and thought leadership that raise AECOM's profile in the IT/OT market.
Capability Building and Leadership
·Help define the strategy, service offerings and operating model for AECOM's future IT/OT capability.
·Contribute to workforce planning and recruitment for the future team, including the leadership roles across application development, ERP and systems, cyber implementation, IT operations, OT and industrial systems, and cloud and infrastructure.
·Help build delivery practices for the team, including software engineering standards, DevOps, testing and quality assurance, and an apprenticeship and early-careers pathway for developers and engineers.
·Build partnerships with technology vendors and specialist providers where they complement, rather than replace, AECOM's own delivery capability.
·Mentor colleagues and build IT/OT awareness across the wider advisory and engineering community.
·10+ years of experience in IT, OT or cyber security, including significant time in a client-facing consulting, advisory or solution leadership role, preferably in infrastructure, utilities, transport, energy or industrial sectors.
·Broad, credible technical knowledge across enterprise IT (applications, ERP, cloud, networks and service management) and operational technology (SCADA, ICS, PLCs, telemetry and IoT), and of how the two connect securely.
·Working understanding of modern software and systems delivery, including front-end and back-end development, low-code platforms, ERP implementation, systems integration, DevOps and testing, sufficient to shape solutions and challenge delivery teams.
·Strong working knowledge of cyber security standards and frameworks for IT and OT environments, such as IEC 62443, NIST CSF, ISO/IEC 27001 and the NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework.
·Proven track record of winning work: shaping opportunities, leading bids and presenting to clients, ideally for large technology or transformation programmes.
·Experience leading or advising on large-scale digital or technology transformation programmes, from strategy through to delivery and operation.
·Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust with executives, engineers and operations staff alike.
·Experience leading, mentoring or building technical teams.

To support this commitment, all newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.
