AMZL - Automation Supervisor, Network Automation The Automation Supervisor will report to the Network Automation Manager and lead the execution, reliability, and continuous improvement of automation solutions across the fulfillment network. This role owns the day-to-day coordination of automation initiatives that improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational visibility across sites. The successful candidate will combine operational judgment with strong technical problem-solving.
They will translate network needs into scalable automation solutions, coordinate implementation with site and central teams, and ensure that deployed tools deliver measurable, sustainable results. Key job responsibilities - Supervise the network’s automation portfolio, including workflow tools, reporting solutions, data integrations, label and barcode processes, process-control mechanisms, and site-level operational automations. - Partner with Operations, IT, Engineering, Learning, Safety, Finance, and central support teams to identify high-impact automation opportunities. - Gather requirements from sites, document current-state processes, identify root causes, and design practical future-state workflows. - Prioritize automation requests based on safety impact, customer experience, operational risk, scalability, implementation effort, and verified business value. - Maintain a clear roadmap and intake process for automation projects across the network. - Coordinate pilots, testing, deployment readiness, rollout communications, and post-launch performance reviews. - Establish standard operating procedures, ownership models, and documentation for all deployed automations. - Monitor automation health, adoption, data quality, failure trends, and business-impact metrics.
Escalate recurring issues and drive corrective actions to closure. - Build mechanisms that ensure solutions are scalable, secure, auditable, and maintainable across multiple sites. - Reduce manual work, process variation, rework, and defect opportunities through simplification and automation. - Ensure automations follow applicable data-security, access-control, change-management, and operational-safety requirements. - Create training materials and support site teams through adoption of new automated processes.
A day in the life A typical day starts by reviewing the health of live automations, operational performance indicators, open incidents, and deployment milestones. The Automation Lead may work with a site team to investigate a process defect, partner with an analyst to validate the impact of a new workflow, and align with Engineering or IT on an integration dependency. Throughout the day, the role balances immediate operational support with long-term network improvement.
This includes reviewing automation proposals, running project stand-ups, removing blockers for implementation teams, auditing adoption at launched sites, and communicating results to leadership. The objective is to make automation reliable, simple for frontline teams, and measurably valuable to the network. - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - 2+ years of experience in operations, process improvement, automation, engineering, analytics, or program management. - 1+ years of experience leading, supervising, or coordinating technical, operational, or project teams. - Demonstrated experience identifying process gaps, performing root-cause analysis, and implementing sustainable corrective actions. - Experience using data to evaluate performance and quantify operational impact. - Working knowledge of automation concepts, workflow design, data flows, reporting, and system integration. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical topics to non-technical stakeholders. - Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and operational reporting tools. - Familiarity with SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, VBA, low-code automation platforms, APIs, or database concepts. - Experience supporting fulfillment, logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, transportation, or other high-volume operational environments. - Experience delivering multi-site automation or process-standardization initiatives. - Experience with barcode systems, label generation, inventory processes, scanning workflows, or warehouse management systems. - Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or structured continuous-improvement methodologies. - Experience managing project plans, risk registers, stakeholder communications, and implementation milestones. - Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority across multiple teams and sites. - Strong ownership mindset with a record of delivering results under changing operational priorities.
