AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. The Power & Cooling (PAC) team is seeking a results-oriented leader with strong business judgement and experience working with internal and external stakeholders to lead material management execution for Data Center Power & Cooling equipment. Our Materials Manager Leaders are high-energy self-starters who are excited to develop their people and work across functions to deliver long-lead equipment on time to its Need By Date (NBD). As a member of the Power and Cooling Supply Chain Management Team, this role leads one of the Supply Execution teams — the Materials Managers who take a clean, executable demand signal and drive it through to delivered equipment. You will be accountable for on-time delivery across your team’s portfolio of clusters and sites, for the standard of execution your team runs to, and for developing a largely new team into a consistent, high-performing operation. As the leader of a Power and Cooling Supply Execution team, you will manage a team of eight to nine Materials Managers who are responsible for orchestrating the flow of long-lead equipment (LLE) from a clean demand signal through to delivery across their assigned clusters and sites. This team owns the end-to-end (E2E) stakeholder management, date management, and escalation resolution for data center builds within their portfolio, working the signal by time horizon — the current year as the work in hand, the next year as the priority to lock — to guarantee that upstream dependencies are completed on time and equipment is delivered to its Need By Date (NBD). This role’s primary responsibility is to deliver on-time equipment at scale and to work with our internal customers and business partners to resolve the escalations that put delivery dates at risk. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own projects through completion. Key job responsibilities
- The Materials Managers Leader is a people leader who owns the on-time delivery of long-lead equipment (LLE) for a portfolio of AWS data center clusters, through a team of Materials Managers. This role drives execution consistency, date integrity, and escalation resolution so equipment arrives on time to its Need By Date (NBD).
- Team Leadership and Development — You will lead, coach, and develop a team of eight to nine Materials Managers — many early in their PAC tenure — building a consistent, teachable standard of execution in place of individual improvisation, and creating the growth paths that keep a largely new team engaged and retained.
- Delivery Execution to the Need By Date — You will own on-time delivery across your team’s portfolio, holding the team to a single, sharp scope: managing the dates to the NBD. You will drive a standard operating rhythm rather than many personal methods, so execution becomes consistent, teachable, and measurable.
- Date Integrity and Risk Management — You will ensure your team tracks supplier delivery commitments against construction need-by dates and maintains trustworthy dates, serving as an early-warning system for schedule impacts. While Global Supply Chain Managers handle supplier negotiations, you will partner with them to highlight risk and support mitigation, and drive build-prioritization decisions as a key liaison to the business.
- Stakeholder Management and Escalation — You will own the cross-functional relationships your team depends on — Construction Managers, Technical Infrastructure Program Managers (TIPMs), Global Category Managers (GCMs), and suppliers — and act as the escalation point that unblocks delivery issues before they impact construction schedules, leading war-room sessions when needed.
- Handover Discipline — You will run clean handovers on both sides of your team’s scope: receiving a clean, executable demand signal from Demand & S&OP, and transferring ownership to the Post-Delivery unit at the moment of delivery — so nothing falls between functions.
- Success in this role directly impacts AWS’s ability to deliver data centers on schedule, with performance measured by on-time delivery to NBD, execution consistency, and the development of the team — rather than supplier negotiations and capacity management. A day in the life
- Communicate ideas concisely to a wide variety of stakeholders, for purposes ranging from informative to securing approvals from executives.
- Embody a true pioneering spirit, willing to “get your hands dirty” in a start-up environment while simultaneously developing processes, automation, and delivering results.
- Clearly define data requirements and metrics, working with teams to implement the entire data flow from capture to presentation and management.
- Apply high attention to detail and a proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
- Keen on developing and training people to improve skills and capabilities for sustainable and continuous improvement.
