Ever wondered how tax gets calculated on hundreds of millions of transactions across dozens of countries, automatically, in real time? That's the Tax Engine. It's the system behind every tax calculation Amazon makes, and this role puts you right at the centre of it. We're hiring a Tax Analyst for the Global Tax Engine Operations team in Bratislava, SK focused on regulatory fees and special impositions. Think eWaste levies, deposit return schemes, beverage container fees, and similar charges that vary wildly across jurisdictions.
You won't just research these fees. You'll build the end-to-end calculation logic that makes them work at Amazon global scale. This is not a traditional tax compliance role. You'll work with SQL, data analysis tools, and AI-powered classification models to turn complex legislation into automated, production-grade tax solutions. If you like the intersection of tax, data, and technology, this is it. Key job responsibilities - Own tax calculation end-to-end.
From reading the legislation, through feasibility and accuracy analysis, to deploying automated calculations in the Tax Engine and monitoring them post-launch. - Analyse transaction data, validate tax calculation accuracy, and identify gaps in fee coverage across jurisdictions. - Use and help build AI solutions. You'll work with Amazon internal tools and generative AI tools. But you won't just be a user. You'll actively contribute to shaping how these tools are developed, tested, and improved for tax operations. - Build and track success metrics.
Define KPIs for deployed solutions and use data to drive continuous improvement. - Identify new fee types and jurisdictions to expand coverage. Contribute directly to the team's product roadmap. - Partner with Engineering, Legal, and Product teams to translate regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions. - Drive process improvements. Automate repetitive workflows and propose better ways of working. A day in the life No two days look the same.
You might start the morning reviewing a new state-level fee proposal, then pivot to use SQL to validate calculation accuracy on live transaction data. After lunch, you're testing a new AI-assisted product classification model with the engineering team. By end of day, you're presenting accuracy metrics to stakeholders and proposing next steps. The scope grows with you. The more you bring, the more you'll own. About the team Tax Engine Operations sits at the crossroads of tax, engineering, and data science.
People who do well here tend to grow into roles that didn't exist when they started. You could move deeper into tax automation and AI strategy, lead a programme across multiple jurisdictions, or shift into product or technical programme management within Amazon's Tax Engine org. The space is evolving fast, and we need people who want to evolve with it. If you're someone who wants to shape how AI is applied to tax at scale, not just use it, this is a strong place to start. - Bachelor's degree - Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level - Knowledge of general AI tools - Experience in international indirect tax planning and strong understanding of or practical experience with tax laws in other countries - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field - Knowledge of at least one data-focused technology tool, such as Python, SQL, Alteryx, Amazon QuickSight, or similar - Knowledge of strong understanding of tax compliance principles, regulations, and reporting requirements across jurisdictions Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
