If you want to apply machine learning and generative AI to a problem where accuracy has a dollar value, this is the role for you. Transportation Financial Systems (TFS) builds the technology that records, reconciles and posts the accounting for Amazon's transportation invoices and payments across 16+ transportation modes. Today, month-end close depends on people tracing breaks across ten or more systems, one case at a time.
The Accounting Insights team replaces that with software. We detect anomalies in financial data with machine learning, find the root cause of a break with generative AI, produce explanations and insights for controllers and accountants, and automate the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that run the close. You will lead a team of engineers, own the roadmap with product management and Accounting partners. Key job responsibilities What will you own?
You will manage a team of engineers and grow them through long-term technical problems their team solves. You will own the technical roadmap for your area with TFS Product Management, Accounting and Controllership partners. You will own operational excellence for your services: operational load, security, resiliency and compliance at Amazon scale. You will set the bar for taking AI into a controlled financial process, with audit evidence, approval steps and separation of duties built in.
What interesting engineering problem will you solve? You will build machine learning models that detect anomalies in reconciliation, balance and posting data before close, with precision you can measure. You will build generative AI agents that trace a break to its owning system and team and propose a permanent fix, with human confirmation before it is submitted. You will build a generative AI assistant that answers balance and variance questions from reconciled figures and attaches the supporting evidence.
You will automate close SOPs as versioned, auditable procedures that AI helps author and run, replacing spreadsheets and individual knowledge. What large scale program opportunities will you have? You will own the partner relationship with Accounting, Controllership and Audit, and influence their roadmap as well as yours. You will work with principal product managers and business leaders to prioritize work and deliver it with quality.
You will make sure open issues and debated topics reach the right forums, so your team's roadmap stays protected. What Think Big exists for you? You can move month-end close from a monthly investigation to a continuous, automated certification. You can turn each one-off root-cause investigation into a permanent fix, so the same class of break stops recurring. - 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience - 3+ years of engineering team management experience - 7+ years of engineering experience - Experience partnering with product or program management teams - Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations - Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy - Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
