Do you want to build the software that connects the world's largest enterprises to the AWS cloud? Would you like to own distributed systems that keep a global network running, and use AI to change how that network is operated? The AWS Direct Connect team delivers solutions that make it easy for customers to establish a dedicated network connection from their premises to the AWS cloud. AWS Direct Connect is available in more than 150 locations across more than 45 countries, and it connects AWS to our largest customers in data centers around the world.
We are building a new software engineering team in Dublin, working side by side with the Direct Connect network engineering team in the same office. You will build and operate the systems that keep Direct Connect customers healthy: data pipelines that analyze network traffic at scale to spot when a customer's traffic is degraded, services that identify which customers are impacted by a network event and keep them informed, and AI agents that automate how engineers handle operational tickets.
Your work will help us find and resolve customer issues faster, and free engineers from repetitive operational work. Key job responsibilities - Design, build, and operate services and asynchronous workflows across all AWS regions and Direct Connect locations. - Build data processing, monitoring services, and automation that help us detect customer impact during events and resolve it faster. - Troubleshoot and root-cause customer-impacting issues, and drive deep dives and corrective actions to completion. - Partner with network development engineers to automate repeatable operational work, using AI-assisted development and agent-driven workflows. - Write and review design documents, and mentor engineers through design and code reviews.
A day in the life On a typical day, you might root-cause a customer-reported issue that spans our services and the network, whiteboard a workflow design with a senior engineer, or pair with a network engineer to automate a task they do by hand today. You'll collaborate with software and network engineers in Dublin and the US on system design. On-call rotations give you direct exposure to how your services and the network behave in production at AWS scale.
Expect a mix of heads-down building and collaborative design sessions. About the team We prioritize availability and invest heavily in deployment safety and monitoring. As our network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blueprint at our scale, so engineers have the autonomy to drive technical decisions and own the results. We favor automation over manual work, are early adopters of AI in our development and operations, and value clear, peer-reviewed documentation for our technical decisions. - Experience (non-internship) in professional software development - Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems - Experience programming with at least one software programming language - Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
