At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.

As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

What the day will look like

In the role of a Lead Software Developer, you will take ownership of building and delivering major features and modules. You will be involved in technical planning through development, testing, and release.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include

  • Developing and delivering complex components and subsystems using C#, .NET, SQL, JavaScript and React, with a focus on clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
  • Translating product requirements into clear implementation plans and contributing to technical specification documents alongside the Team Lead.
  • Conducting code reviews and supporting strong engineering practices across software architecture, APIs, automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Investigating complex technical and production issues, while considering performance, security, accessibility and the wider impact of changes across the platform.
  • Working closely with the Team Lead, Solution Architects, QA and Business Analysts to clarify requirements, validate technical designs and manage dependencies across teams.
  • Supporting engineers with less experience through code reviews, pairing and technical mentorship, while using AI tools in day-to-day engineering work including building, coding, testing and documentation.

How this opportunity is different

This role gives you the opportunity to take real ownership of complex technical work while remaining hands-on with software development.

You will work across different parts of an interconnected platform, contribute to technical design decisions and collaborate with engineers and specialists across international teams. You will also have the opportunity to share your experience with other engineers and help improve engineering practices across the team, without formal people management responsibility.

It is a great opportunity for an experienced software engineer passionate about solving complex technical challenges. They will build high-quality solutions and see their work through from initial development to release.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

4+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally working with large-scale SaaS or enterprise applications.

Strong hands-on experience with C#, .NET, SQL and JavaScript. Able to independently develop and deliver complex features.

Strong understanding of database design, SQL querying, schema design and query optimisation, combined with experience working with APIs and system integrations.

Experience with code reviews, automated quality checks and software building, capable of considering maintainability, performance and the broader consequences of technical decisions.

Strong analytical, communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with global teams and provide technical mentorship to less experienced engineers.

Experience with MVC, React, Azure, AKS/Kubernetes, Azure DevOps CI/CD, OpenAPI, mentoring engineers, automated testing frameworks or HR technology platforms would be an advantage.
