We’re all about helping our members make the most of their money. And while they go after their goals, you can too. As a General Manager – Line 2 Risk Transformation, you’ll lead an enterprise-wide agenda designed to strengthen independent risk oversight, mature our risk management architecture and support sustainable regulatory compliance.
As a key member of the Risk and Compliance Leadership Team, you’ll have an influential mandate. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, you’ll set the strategic direction for Line 2 transformation and lead delivery of the CRO-sponsored components of our Board-approved Risk Transformation Plan.
This is a role for an accomplished risk executive who can move confidently between strategy and execution. You’ll shape our future-state Line 2 operating model, provide independent review and constructive challenge, and advise the Chief Risk Officer on strategic priorities, investment, trade-offs, readiness and material transformation risks.
Working across the three lines of accountability, you’ll bring senior leaders together around a clear transformation agenda while preserving the independence and integrity of Line 2 oversight. Your leadership will help embed enduring change across frameworks, governance, methodologies, processes, data and technology, strengthening how risk is understood and managed across Australian Retirement Trust.
This role is a 12 month max-term opportunity and is based in Brisbane.
Day to day, you'll
- Set the strategic direction and integrated roadmap for Line 2 risk transformation, aligned with ART’s strategy, risk appetite, Target Operating Model and Board-approved objectives.
- Lead the CRO-sponsored components of the Board-approved Risk Transformation Plan, establishing clear priorities, decision rights, dependencies and executive accountability.
- Shape and embed the future-state Line 2 operating model, including frameworks, governance, methodologies and oversight practices.
- Translate regulatory expectations and transformation commitments into sustainable enterprise risk outcomes.
- Provide authoritative, independent review and constructive challenge across future-state design, implementation, risk treatment and organisational readiness.
- Advise the Chief Risk Officer on strategic priorities, investment choices, delivery trade-offs, emerging risks and material matters requiring executive decision or escalation.
- Represent the Line 2 transformation position across executive, programme and design governance, ensuring independence and oversight expectations inform enterprise decisions.
- Influence across organisational boundaries to resolve competing priorities, create alignment and maintain momentum against transformation commitments.
- Oversee transformation governance and performance disciplines, with a focus on risk reduction, benefits realisation and sustainable embedment.
- Lead the change and capability uplift required to strengthen risk culture, accountability and adoption of new risk practices.
- It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:
- You bring extensive executive or senior leadership experience spanning enterprise risk management, governance and complex risk transformation within financial services.
- Your track record demonstrates successful leadership of large-scale, multi-year transformations spanning operating models, frameworks, processes, data, technology and organisational capability.
- You’ll bring deep expertise in the three lines model, Line 2 independence, risk appetite, control environments, assurance and APRA and ASIC regulatory expectations.
- You’re comfortable operating with Boards, C-suite executives and senior governance forums, providing authoritative advice, constructive challenge and clear recommendations.
- You combine strategic, commercial and systems thinking with the judgement to balance regulatory obligations, member outcomes, risk and transformation delivery.
- Your experience includes leading complex transformation within superannuation, banking, insurance, wealth management or another highly regulated financial services environment.
- You’ll bring exceptional stakeholder leadership and influencing capability, with experience navigating ambiguity, competing enterprise priorities and complex decision environments.
- You’re an accomplished people leader who can build senior capability and create a culture of accountability, inclusion and high performance.
- You demonstrate high integrity, independence of thought and sound executive judgement, with a strong focus on sustainable outcomes.
- Your tertiary qualifications are in risk, finance, business, law, governance or a related discipline, or you bring equivalent senior professional experience.
- You’ll ideally bring postgraduate qualifications or relevant professional certification in risk management, governance, project management or change management.
- You’re experienced engaging with regulators, independent reviewers, internal audit and external assurance providers, with contemporary knowledge of risk technology, data, analytics and automation.
