Senior Product Manager – Finance Technology Platforms

New York City, NY In person Full-time

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a senior product manager to help shape the next generation of finance technology platforms within its Middle and Back Office Technology (MBOT) team. This person will own the product portfolio supporting the firm's Management Reporting function and represent its needs in a cross-functional initiative to modernize the firm's broader finance platforms. The position offers a unique opportunity to join a collaborative, innovative, and results-driven environment with meaningful ownership and firmwide impact.

What you’ll do day-to-day Act as a strategic partner to business stakeholders, owning product direction, prioritization, and delivery of high-impact technology solutions across these platforms, with an initial focus on compensation-related strategy and roadmap. Balance near-term operational needs with longer-term platform strategy, and proactively identify opportunities for automation, AI-enabled efficiency, and risk reduction.

Drive alignment on the product vision and roadmap across technology and non-technology teams. Collaborate with Management Reporting stakeholders to assess, design, and deliver technology solutions that modernize operations across the Compensation Portal, MD/staff compensation planning and modeling, payroll, budgeting, reporting and analytics, and P&L reporting. Define and drive the strategy and roadmap for compensation-related products, modernizing legacy reporting and systems and shaping solutions in areas that are still taking shape.

Lead requirements gathering and prioritization across stakeholder groups, develop and maintain product roadmaps, and proactively identify opportunities for workflow automation, data-integrity improvements, and operational resilience. Apply systems thinking and creativity to process design, using AI tools to identify and deliver workflow efficiencies. Translate complex business needs into clear technical deliverables for in-house software developers and QA engineers.

What we’re looking for A bachelor's degree or higher, with at least seven years of relevant product or technology management experience, ideally in compensation, payroll, financial reporting, or related financial technology. Experience working with software development teams to design and deliver complex technical solutions in a fast-paced financial environment. An AI-forward mindset, with relevant hands-on experience applying AI tools to products or workflows, and a willingness to try new approaches.

Keen analytical, organization, and prioritization skills; demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional initiatives from inception to completion. Clear, direct, and proactive verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to collaborate with and influence partners across business and technology domains. An empathetic approach to product management, with the ability to understand stakeholder concerns at both the implementation and process levels.

A high degree of professional integrity and discretion when handling sensitive business, compensation, and client information. Skill in proactively identifying and addressing complex, ambiguous problems with attention to detail and a service mindset. Understanding of compensation, payroll, and management/P&L reporting workflows and the systems that support them is preferred. Familiarity with financial and reporting systems, databases, and relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#) is a plus.

The expected annual base salary for this position is $175,000 to $250,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
