HR/Recruiting Specialist

Austin, TX +1 In person Full-time

Disability Rights Texas (DRTx) is currently recruiting for a Human Resources Recruiting Specialist – Rural Justice Initiative to join the Human Resources Department.

This is a new, grant-funded, and time-limited position created to support DRTx’s participation in the Rural Justice Initiative (RJI), a five-year collaborative project designed to expand access to civil legal services for low-income Texans living in rural communities and areas considered legal deserts.

The Recruiting Specialist will play a key role in helping DRTx build the workforce necessary to carry out this important initiative. The position’s primary focus will be developing and implementing creative, proactive recruitment strategies to attract, engage, and hire attorneys to provide disability-related legal services in rural and underserved areas of Texas. The position may also support recruitment for other RJI-funded positions and other DRTx employment needs as assigned.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys recruiting, relationship building, outreach, and finding new ways to connect talented people with meaningful work. Because recruiting attorneys for some of the communities served by RJI will require us to look beyond traditional recruiting methods, we are particularly interested in someone who is creative, persistent, comfortable building new relationships, and excited about developing talent pipelines from the ground up.

The position is full-time, non-exempt, reports directly to the Human Resources Director, and is designated as a Confidential classification and is not in the bargaining unit. Because this position is funded specifically through the Rural Justice Initiative, continued employment in the position is dependent upon the duration and availability of project funding.

Briefly About the Position

The Human Resources Recruiting Specialist for the Rural Justice Initiative will develop, coordinate, and execute recruitment and talent-acquisition activities supporting DRTx’s participation in RJI.

Working closely with the Human Resources Director, RJI project leadership, supervising attorneys, hiring managers, law schools, bar associations, community partners, and other professional networks, the Recruiting Specialist will develop sustainable attorney talent pipelines and manage assigned recruitment activities from sourcing through accepted offer and transition to onboarding.

A significant part of the position will involve proactive recruiting and relationship building rather than relying solely on candidates who respond to traditional job postings. This will include developing connections with law schools and career services offices; bar associations and professional organizations; public-interest and legal-services networks; community organizations; colleges and universities; and attorneys, law students, recent graduates, and others who have connections to or an interest in practicing in rural Texas.

The Recruiting Specialist will also represent DRTx at career fairs, law school programs, conferences, professional meetings, community events, and other recruitment activities and will periodically travel throughout Texas, including occasional overnight travel.

Some of the Key Responsibilities Include

Developing and executing recruitment strategies for attorneys and other designated RJI-funded positions.

Creating innovative sourcing strategies for positions and geographic areas where traditional applicant pools may be limited.

Proactively identifying and engaging prospective candidates and developing pipelines for anticipated future hiring needs.

Establishing and maintaining relationships with law schools, bar associations, professional organizations, public-interest organizations, community partners, and other recruitment sources.

Managing assigned recruitment processes from approved requisition through accepted employment offer and transition to onboarding.

Conducting initial candidate screening interviews and coordinating interviews, candidate communications, reference checks, background screening, and other pre-employment activities.

Partnering with hiring managers to develop effective recruitment timelines, candidate profiles, evaluation criteria, and selection processes.

Representing DRTx at recruiting events, career fairs, conferences, law school programs, professional meetings, and community events.

Tracking recruitment activity and outcomes and using recruitment data to evaluate sourcing effectiveness, identify barriers, and adjust recruiting strategies.

Supporting documentation and reporting requirements associated with RJI grant-funded positions.

Collaborating with other members of Human Resources to continuously improve DRTx’s recruitment processes, candidate experience, sourcing practices, and employer visibility.
