Nationwide Building Society Finance/FinTech

Senior Manager for Website Strategy and Capability

Swindon, United Kingdom Hybrid Full-time

We’re looking for an experienced and strategic Senior Manager, Strategy & Capability to join the Websites team, where you'll define the future direction of Nationwide's digital estate and the capabilities that support it. You'll lead the strategy, roadmap and evolution of our website platforms, ensuring they remain customer-focused, commercially effective and capable of meeting the evolving needs of both our customers and the business.

The Websites team is responsible for delivering exceptional digital experiences across the Nationwide website, app and Internet Bank product pages. Our purpose is simple: to ensure customers enjoy a seamless experience every time they interact with us online.

As the Senior Manager, Strategy & Capability, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Nationwide's digital estate. Reporting to the Head of Websites, you'll define the strategic direction, capability roadmap and technical evolution of our website platforms, ensuring they continue to deliver outstanding customer experiences while supporting wider business objectives.

You'll lead a diverse portfolio spanning website strategy, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), personalisation, campaign enablement, platform capabilities, engineering and Virgin Money integration activity, bringing these areas together to create a cohesive, customer-focused digital experience. Working closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation, you'll identify future opportunities, set strategic priorities and ensure our digital channels remain commercially effective, scalable and ready for the future.

A key aspect of the role will be building and leading a high-performing multidisciplinary team, developing capability across specialist disciplines and creating an environment where innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement can flourish.

This is a highly strategic leadership opportunity for someone who combines customer focus, technical expertise and commercial acumen, and who is passionate about using digital capabilities to drive growth, enhance customer outcomes and shape the future of Nationwide's online experience.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our Swindon or London office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location, we would welcome your application and, if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role.

Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.

If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.

What you’ll be doing

As the Senior Manager, Strategy & Capability, you'll define and lead the Websites Strategy and Capability Roadmap, ensuring our digital estate continues to evolve in line with customer needs, business priorities and emerging technologies. You'll set the long-term direction for our website platforms and the capabilities that support them, translating strategic objectives into clear, measurable outcomes.

You'll lead the evolution of our website platforms, engineering services and integration capabilities, ensuring the foundations are in place to deliver reliable, scalable and future-ready digital experiences. This includes oversight of key areas such as platform development, engineering, campaign enablement and Virgin Money integration activity.

A core focus of the role will be driving improvements in customer experience and digital performance through capabilities such as SEO, GEO, personalisation and experimentation. Using data, market trends and customer insight, you'll identify opportunities to enhance customer journeys, increase engagement and support commercial objectives.

You'll build, lead and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. You'll ensure the team has the skills, tools and expertise required to support the future direction of our digital estate.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation, you'll influence strategic priorities, secure alignment and ensure investments in capability deliver measurable customer, commercial and operational benefits. Through your leadership, you'll help ensure Nationwide's digital channels remain customer-focused, commercially effective and well positioned for continued growth.
