It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.
Our Culture We embrace a culture of learning, collaboration, innovation, and well-being, where open communication drives our impact. About The Role The GAC Fund Project Coordinator will work under the direction of the GAC Project Manager to administer the NYC GAC Fund portfolio. The GAC Fund Project Coordinator is part of the team primarily responsible for citywide efforts to promote and protect access to gender affirming care.
About the Program Gender-affirming care (GAC) is recognized by major U.S. medical associations as medically necessary for many transgender and gender-diverse people. In addition, many transgender and gender non-conforming/non-binary (TGNCNB) individuals also need legal or practical assistance in updating their identification documents, combatting jobs or housing discrimination, or even accessing education or bathrooms.
Research shows GAC is associated with reduced depression and suicidal ideation, and better long-term mental health outcomes. Denial of care or legal recognition of one’s identity increases risk of mental health crisis and unsafe self-treatment. Yet access has become increasingly difficult due to state-level restrictions, insurance barriers, and shifting federal guidance. New York City has been an innovator and leader in sexual and reproductive health.
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has long followed the tenets of the Sexual and Reproductive Justice Framework which states that all people should have the power and resources to make healthy decisions about their bodies, including sexuality and reproduction. As part of these efforts, the Health Department will develop and implement a new fund to contract with clinical providers to ensure access to care for youth in need of gender-affirming care.
This funding will enable providers of youth gender-affirming care to address financial shortfalls resulting from any denials or reductions in federal funding and increase their capacity to ensure continuity of care for medically necessary hormone therapy for transgender youth in accessible and affordable care settings. Responsibilities The GAC Fund Project Coordinator will: Conduct a landscape analysis of the New York City GAC provider network Synthesize service level and cost information to create a strategic plan and recommendations for fund administration to identify opportunities for funding.

Work with the GAC Fund Data Analyst to track grantee/contractor performance through regular review of programmatic data.
