Equals Money Finance/FinTech

Safeguarding & Reconciliations Analyst (EMEU)

London, United Kingdom Hybrid Full-time

About Equals

Equals is the next-generation global money movement platform built for exceptional businesses operating across borders. We bring international payments, embedded finance, and more together into a single connection that simplifies operations and strengthens financial control. With deep expertise and integrated infrastructure, Equals turns financial complexity into reliable solutions.

With our headquarters in London and teams around the UK and Europe, you will join a very close-knit, talented and supportive team from various backgrounds who believe that bringing different perspectives together helps us understand our customers' needs. United, by one thing, making money management straightforward and cost-effective for our customers.

About the role

This role owns the day-to-day safeguarding and reconciliation work for Equals Money Europe SA/NV (EMEU), our Brussels-based payment institution, authorised and supervised by the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) and how we serve clients across the EEA. You will make sure client funds are correctly safeguarded, that our bank positions and ledgers agree, and that money sits in the right entity, the right account and the right currency at the end of every day.

It is a hands-on role. A fair amount of the work is still manual: sweeps, matching and corrective movements, so you will need to be accurate under time pressure, and comfortable chasing Treasury, Dealers, Payments and Engineering to get things resolved. You will work alongside a Brussels-based analyst who shares the daily workload, and you will be the first point of contact when something goes wrong on EMEU.

Reporting to the Director of Financial Control within the Finance (Financial Control) team, this is a permanent, full-time role based in [London / Brussels]. You will work with Treasury, Dealers, the Payments team, Engineering and Data, Compliance and the wider Finance team in London, and will also have contact with our banking partners.

Responsibilities

  • Review EMEU safeguarding positions daily against bank balances and the general ledger, and investigate any differences.
  • Prepare and review month-end safeguarding data, including funds held and margin balances used in safeguarding reporting.
  • Prepare the monthly Safeguarding Committee pack: KPI results, reconciliation commentary, incidents, exceptions and updates.
  • Analyse incidents and operational issues that affect safeguarding, and explain KPI breaches and their root cause.
  • Run the daily bank reconciliation on our payments platform and resolve breaks, including duplicate entries.
  • Manually match FX and drawdown covers, confirm drawdowns have completed and been correctly funded, and investigate unmatched items until they are cleared.
  • Check daily for transactions processed through the wrong entity or bank, and arrange the corrective movements.
  • Review outstanding bank entries, GL lines and reconciling items at month end, and make sure each one is followed through.
  • Calculate, check and process daily treasury sweeps and drawdown order sweeps.
  • Monitor EMEU settlement accounts by currency and investigate insufficient, negative or unexpected balances.
  • Confirm expected client funds have arrived and follow up on anything outstanding.
  • Investigate missing, delayed, returned or misrouted payments with the banks and internal teams, and process manual payments or sweeps when automated processes fail.
  • Raise incidents and tickets, set out the Finance impact, and keep stakeholders updated until they are closed.
  • Calculate EMEU revenue weekly, make the required adjustments and prepare it for transfer, and complete the month-end revenue review.
  • Work out the amounts due between EMEU and other Group entities (EMPLC, EMUK, EMI), prepare the supporting information and IAT requests, and post the journals, including journal and IAT corrections for entity or treasury movements.
  • Run the weekly EMEU entity checks, review recurring manual interventions and open tickets, and push for permanent fixes.

Your Profile

Skills & Experience

  • Solid experience in reconciliations and/or safeguarding at a payment institution, e-money institution, bank or FX business.
  • A working understanding of safeguarding requirements under PSD2 and how they are applied in practice.
  • Confidence with multi-currency bank and GL reconciliations, intercompany and journals.
  • Strong Excel skills and the ability to work through large data sets quickly.
  • Clear written English: you will be writing committee commentary and incident updates.
  • Desirable: working knowledge of SQL, enough to pull and check transaction and balance data yourself when investigating breaks.
  • Desirable: experience of process improvement or automation in a finance operations setting.
  • Desirable: knowledge of Belgian safeguarding requirements and NBB expectations, including Circular NBB_2024_01.
  • Desirable: French or Dutch language skills.
  • Desirable: part-qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.

Attitude & Behaviours

Accurate under time pressure, keeping the daily cut-offs even when the workload spikes.

Comfortable chasing Treasury, Dealers, Payments and Engineering to get things resolved, and keeping stakeholders updated until an issue is closed.
