Junior Hardware Engineering Technician

Canada In person Full-time

The Junior Hardware Engineering Technician supports the development, testing, and release of new PCB designs and revisions. This role is ideal for an early‑career engineer or technician with strong hands‑on skills, attention to detail, and a desire to grow within a hardware development team.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), including part selection, alternates, and revision tracking.
  • Perform hardware testing on new PCB designs and revisions using lab equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, thermal imaging cameras, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Coordinate prototype builds by preparing documentation, organizing materials, and communicating requirements with internal teams and external manufacturing partners.
  • Respond to semi‑technical engineering questions from PCB vendors and contract manufacturers (CMs), including inquiries related to stack‑ups, tolerances, substitutions, and fabrication details.
  • Participate in PCB layout reviews, identifying issues related to component placement, routing, clearances, DFM concerns, mechanical fit, etc.
  • Provide general support for PCB development activities, including schematic review, part research, and—depending on skill level—assisting with PCB layout tasks.
  • Maintain accurate test records, engineering notes, and documentation throughout the development cycle.
  • Position Hours: Full time
  • Position Opening Date: Currently open and accepting applications
  • Location: McBride, British Columbia (In Person Only)

Required Qualifications

  • Legally entitled to live and work in Canada.
  • Diploma or degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience in lieu of formal education).
  • Familiarity with common electronic components (resistors, capacitors, connectors, ICs, regulators, etc.) and their datasheets.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and PCB documentation.
  • Hands‑on experience with basic lab equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, power supplies, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain clear documentation.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with engineers, manufacturing partners, and suppliers.
  • Problem‑solving mindset with willingness to learn and take direction from senior team members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a PCB design tool (Altium, KiCad, Eagle, etc.).
  • Understanding of PCBA manufacturing processes, DFM principles, and common fabrication terminology.
  • Exposure to a PLM/ERP system or BOM management software.
  • Prior experience working directly with contract manufacturers on production/prototype orders.
  • Soldering or rework skills.
