Finance Trainee

Nottingham, United Kingdom In person Full-time

Location: Nottingham

About the role

Are you looking to start a career in finance and learn while you earn? The Finance RS team is looking for an enthusiastic trainee to join us, working from our Nottingham office to help support the firm’s day-to-day financial management. You do not need previous finance experience, what matters most is a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the confidence to get involved in a fast-paced environment.

From day one, you will gain hands-on experience across a wide range of Finance RS activities. You will also be given the opportunity to work with colleagues in our Cashiers, Billing and Collections, and Accounts Payable teams so that you gain a broad understanding of how finance supports the firm. Your work will help us provide an efficient, responsive service to our lawyers, support teams and external clients.

This role is intended to be offered as an apprenticeship, giving you the opportunity to work towards a recognised qualification while developing practical skills in a busy finance department. We will tailor the programme to your existing qualifications and experience, and it is expected to include the AAT Level 2 apprenticeship. You will be supported as you learn, build confidence and take on more responsibility.

Key responsibilities

  • This is a varied role where you’ll support colleagues across the firm, develop your financial knowledge and gain experience of the systems and processes that keep our business running smoothly.
  • Be a helpful first point of contact by monitoring the Finance RS inbox and ServiceNow, responding to queries promptly and accurately and helping colleagues navigate our financial systems and processes.
  • Support lawyers with quarterly matter balance reviews, including cost estimate updates, matter closures and write-offs.
  • Help maintain accurate financial records by resolving client, matter and lawyer housekeeping queries.
  • Monitor unposted time, reallocate files when colleagues leave and review lawyers’ open matter lists, including those for some of the firm’s larger clients.
  • Support month-end and year-end reporting, giving you the opportunity to develop your analytical skills and understanding of financial information.
  • Help prepare regular team reports and gain insight into how financial data supports business decisions.
  • Get involved in wider team activities and projects, giving you plenty of opportunity to develop your knowledge, skills and experience.
