Payroll Supervisor

Stellenbosch, South Africa In person Full-time

Weekly and monthly payrolls, several African countries, thousands of people counting on getting paid right. As Payroll Supervisor, you lead the payroll administrators day to day and you're the careful check between the numbers and final approval. If you like owning the detail and leading a team that gets it right every cycle, read on.

WHAT THE JOB ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

Lead the team

  • Support and supervise the payroll administrators with daily payroll operations per country
  • Manage payroll processing tasks every day and escalate challenges to the Functional Head of Payroll
  • Supervise and review payroll corrections coming through Monday.com and the FreshServices portal

Check it before it goes out

  • Review the hours imported from UKG Dimensions for weekly and monthly payrolls
  • Review the weekly leave integration between UKG Dimensions and Sage 300 Payroll
  • Review all payroll payments and submit them to the Functional Head of Payroll for final approval
  • Review reconciliations and store splits for third-party payments and net pay
  • Own all Sage 300 system reviews and escalate anything that looks wrong

Own the payroll accounting

  • Process payroll journals for all countries and submit them to Group Finance weekly, per the Monday.com task allocations
  • Support Group Finance with payroll reporting for month-end, year-end and audits, owning the team's payroll accounting deliverables
  • Run the Paymenow deduction bulk and reconciliation process

Keep it compliant

  • Supervise the monthly Group Tax Validation process and make sure mandatory master data is up to date
  • Follow payroll policies and procedures and flag changes that are needed
  • Help the Functional Head of Payroll with ad-hoc duties and projects

This role runs on weekly and monthly deadlines across several countries at the same time, and when a number is wrong, people don't get paid correctly. You're the last check before payments go for approval, so the accountability sits with you. If you stay sharp when the pressure peaks and enjoy getting complex detail right, this is your role. If you want one payroll and a predictable month, it probably isn't.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • At least 5 years in a similar role, on a payroll of no less than 1,500 employees
  • At least 2 years in a payroll supervisory position, leading a team
  • Solid working experience with Sage 300 People
  • Experience with both weekly and monthly payrolls
  • Experience with a payroll migration into Sage 300 People
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft, especially Excel
  • Experience delivering in a high-pressure environment with tight deadlines

Advantageous

  • Knowledge and experience in African country payroll administration and payroll accounting

WHAT YOU GET

  • A team of payroll administrators to lead
  • Ownership of payroll accounting deliverables across every country in the group
  • A direct working line to the Functional Head of Payroll and close collaboration with Group Finance
  • Multi-country payroll exposure across a business operating in several African countries
  • A say in how payroll runs, with room to flag and shape process changes
