As a Principal on the Customer Growth team, you'll build the strategy for how QuickBooks grows its customer base and then quarterback it to flawless execution. You’ll own the integrated growth plan: the strategy, forecast, and operating rhythm that connects initiatives (Mobile, QuickBooks Free, QuickBooks Lite, QuickBooks + TurboTax) to the channel investment behind it (paid, lifecycle, partnerships, brand, and more).
Product marketers and channel teams own delivery within their areas, and you own what it all adds up to. You’ll give the business a clear view of where growth is headed and why, catch problems and opportunities early, and when we fall behind, trace the shortfall to its source and drive the fix.
At Intuit, our mission is to power prosperity around the world. We build intuitive web, mobile, and cloud solutions that give people and businesses more money, more time, and more confidence. Intuit's Global Business Solutions Group (GBSG) delivers solutions that help businesses thrive, from finding customers to managing invoices, payroll, accounting, payments, and lending.
As part of the U.S. Marketing organization for QuickBooks, the Customer Growth team is looking for a Principal to build the strategy behind our reaccelerated growth agenda and quarterback its execution. Leadership has committed to reaccelerating customer growth, and Finance sets the target. This role owns what it takes to get there. You’ll sit alongside a product marketing people-leader whose team owns each growth initiative, and work closely with the functional teams who each own a channel.
They own delivery in their areas. You’re the person who sees the whole board, not just one square: you own the forecast that tells us where we’ll land and why, and you lead the cross-functional work to close any gap to target.
You'll partner across Product Marketing's initiative owners, channel teams, Product, Sales, Finance, and Data Science to see the growth story as one connected system rather than a set of independent initiatives and channels, build the strategy and models, run the reviews, and drive the recovery and compounding plans that turn a number on a page into an operating discipline the whole team trusts.
Responsibilities
How You'll Lead
The growth strategy. Own the strategic plan for how Customer Growth wins and connect the initiative-level bets (Mobile, QuickBooks Free, QuickBooks Lite, QuickBooks + TurboTax) with the channel investment (paid, lifecycle, partnerships, brand) that brings them to life.
Quarterback flawless execution. Keep the whole system on plan. Product marketers and channel teams own delivery in their areas. You’re accountable for the system executing well together: keeping the plan on track, catching gaps between initiatives and channels early, and stepping in to course-correct when something isn’t landing.
Think like a GM. Connect the dots across the full portfolio of growth opportunities — acquisition, pricing and packaging, retention, channel mix, product — to spot where synergy between levers accelerates growth faster than optimizing any one in isolation.
Build the performance management framework and operating cadence. Define the metrics, definitions, review forums, and decision rights that enable data-driven decisions and early identification of growth opportunities.
Own the customer growth forecast. Finance sets top-down targets; you build and maintain the driver-based forecast (funnel conversion, channel mix, cohort retention, pricing and promotion, seasonality). Set assumptions with cross-functional owners, challenge them, and refresh the view regularly. Give leadership a clear range and confidence level, and be accountable for forecast accuracy.
Run the weekly growth review. Report target, actual, and forecast in one view. Frame each update as risks and opportunities, and surface issues before they show up in the quarterly numbers.
Compound what's working. When we're ahead, establish why, and test whether outperformance is durable and repeatable or a one-off. Make the case for redeploying investment and attention to the highest-return levers, watching marginal efficiency and customer quality so we don't buy growth that doesn't last.
Close the gap between forecast and target. Close the gap to target. Understand what is driving performance. When results differ from forecast, break the variance into drivers (volume, conversion, mix, price, channel, cohort quality) to find the cause, whether it sits in an initiative or a channel, and separate lasting issues from short-term noise. Quantify any gap to target and build a portfolio of ideas sized by impact, confidence, cost, and timing, with named owners and milestones, tracked to closure.
Facilitate cross-functional ideation so the best ideas surface regardless of who owns them. Risk-adjust the forecast as ideas move from speculative to committed, and give Finance warning when forecast and target diverge.
Partner with Finance on targets. Translate top-down targets into funnel-, segment-, and weekly-level goals, and pressure-test them against the bottoms-up forecast. Flag where a target is likely to be a stretch or too conservative.
What You'll Bring
Experience & Expertise
- 8+ years in growth marketing or growth strategy with experience in BizOps, FP&A or or strategy consulting a plus.
- Demonstrated ownership of a growth strategy and forecast, with a track record of driving execution through teams you didn't manage directly.
- Fluency in marketing channel economics - paid, lifecycle, partnerships, brand - and experience partnering directly with product marketing on initiative strategy, not just measuring after the fact.
- Experience building driver-based models and running scenario and sensitivity analysis, including funnel, cohort retention, and CAC/LTV economics.
- Comfortable enough with SQL and BI tools, and working with imperfect data.
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative, business, or related field (MBA a plus).
- Nice to have: subscription, SMB, consumer fintech, or product-led growth experience.
Leadership & Influence
- Owns the Whole, Influences the Parts: Takes ownership of the integrated growth plan and drives outcomes through initiative and channel teams that report elsewhere. Builds accountability through influence and a shared plan, not authority.
- GM Mindset: Owns outcomes across the full growth portfolio rather than a single channel or program; thinks and acts like they run the business, not just a piece of it.
- Leadership Presence: Confident communicator able to influence and align stakeholders across Product, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Data Science without direct authority.
- Accountable and Proactive: Raises issues early and brings options, not just problems.
- Collaborative and Humble: Makes the people around them better, especially when the numbers are bad.
Strategic & Analytical Thinking
Connects the Dots: Sees the growth portfolio as one system, not a set of independent levers, and spots where combining efforts across initiative and channel teams creates more value than any one team could alone.
Turns Analysis Into Action: Converts a model or a variance into a clear recommendation, in writing and in the room, and challenges assumptions constructively.
Comfortable with Ambiguity: Makes progress without perfect data or a defined playbook.
Curious and Fast-Learning: Genuinely curious about the business and the customer; a fast study on new drivers and mechanics.
Positive and Solutions-Oriented: Stays constructive under pressure, including when trailing forecast.
