Roles and responsibilities

  • Develop internal audit strategies and annual plans that address client priorities, project delivery and KPMG methodology, and deliver agreed work against those plans.
  • Review audit evidence for sufficiency against relevant Institute of Internal Auditors and Public Sector Internal Audit Standards requirements and KPMG methodology, and oversee clear, effective reporting.
  • Build day-to-day relationships with client staff and senior stakeholders, lead discussions on findings, and escalate significant matters to KPMG partners and directors.
  • Support the management of a UK-wide client portfolio, including budgets, work in progress, fees, resource allocation and the financial performance of engagements.
  • Coordinate specialist input from colleagues across KPMG and work with clients’ in-house internal audit teams where additional or specialist resource is required.
  • Coach colleagues on risk management and internal audit methodology, support team objectives and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to extend KPMG’s work with clients and targets, contributing to tender documents, proposals and wider business development.

Experience and skills needed

  • Strong understanding of risks, processes and controls, with experience in audit or assurance work.
  • Experience overseeing and conducting fieldwork for audit or assurance assignments, including planning, review and reporting.
  • Experience acting as a main or secondary client contact and managing day-to-day relationships with senior finance stakeholders.
  • Effective report writing, including communicating findings and recommendations clearly to clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, including managing delivery, resources and engagement priorities.
  • Private sector, public sector and/or professional services experience, with commercial awareness and a strong client service mindset.
