What you’ll be doing

The Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) business provides a diverse range of payments and cash management (P&CM) solutions delivering market leading products, services and channels to highly sophisticated clients who demand a deep level of expertise from their P&CM provider.

Transaction Banking sits at the heart of how corporate and institutional clients move money, manage liquidity and support their global operations.

The Transaction Banking Head of Network Management is responsible for developing and managing the bank's global payments network to support institutional, commercial and retail client payment needs. The role ensures the organisation has the optimal mix of correspondent banks, payment service providers, financial institutions and fintech partners to deliver secure, efficient and compliant cross-border payment services.

The role acts as the strategic interface between Retail, Commercial Product, Operations, Group Payments, Treasury, Risk, Institutional Coverage, Technology and external partners, ensuring network capabilities support current client needs and future growth ambitions.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement the Network Management strategy. Present network strategy, risks and opportunities to senior leadership and governance forums.

Oversee the bank's nostro account network and payment routing arrangements - monitor network performance, service levels, operational risk and partner concentration risk.

Manage relationships with correspondent banks, payment service providers, strategic fintech and digital asset infrastructure partners - lead negotiations with network partners to optimise cost, service and commercial outcomes.

Identify and support delivery of new payment propositions including real-time payments, payments to e-wallets, cards and emerging payment rails underpinned by digital assets.

Find opportunities to expand currency, scheme and market access capabilities.

Lead new partner selection exercises including RFIs, RFPs and due diligence assessments. Assess providers against service quality, market coverage, pricing, resilience, regulatory compliance and strategic fit.

Effectively manage and grow the Network Management team.

Work closely with Product Management to ensure network capabilities align with client requirements.

Maintain awareness of industry developments including ISO 20022, SWIFT evolution, instant payments, digital assets and regulatory change.

Why join us?

If you think all banks are the same, you’re wrong. We’re a pioneering, fast-changing business that’s shaping finance as a force for good. If you’re after a role where you can have an impact and do the best work of your career, you’ve just found it.

What we’re looking for?

This is a highly visible leadership role combining commercial ownership, strategic influence, and industry engagement. You’ll lead the development and execution of the Network Management strategy, oversee existing and new partners to support our International Payments growth ambition and ensure strong alignment across Corporate, Commercial & Retail Product Manufacturing, Group Payments, Operations, Technology, Risk and Institutional Coverage teams.

Externally, you’ll serve as a recognised ambassador for the bank within the payments ecosystem, representing the international payment needs of Corporate, Commercial, and Retail industry bodies such as Swift and key partners whilst contributing thought leadership on the future of payments. You’ll need:

Experience managing financial institution and fintech partnerships.

Deep knowledge of international payments, correspondent banking, cash management and application of digital assets in these areas.

Strong understanding of SWIFT, RTGS, instant payment schemes, and cross-border payment networks.

Commercial negotiation and vendor management expertise.

Strong knowledge of payment regulations, sanctions and compliance requirements.

Ability to influence senior stakeholders across product, operations, technology, risk and coverage teams.

Strategic thinker with experience delivering network transformation, optimisation programmes and innovative propositions.

Success Measures

  • Network coverage supports clients’ current and evolving needs in alignment with product and sales growth objectives.
  • Improved payment speed, transparency and straight-through processing.
  • Reduced operational and settlement risk - enhanced resilience and diversification of network partners.
  • Delivery of cost efficiencies and commercial value.
  • Successful onboarding of new payment corridors, schemes, strategic partners, and digital payment rails.
