Software Engineer, Product

Web Journeys builds Meta's front door: helping people discover meaningful experiences on the web and move seamlessly between web and native apps. Our work spans Facebook's mobile web experiences, web-to-app routing, login and credential sharing, and the platforms that support acquisition, engagement, and measurement across interfaces.

We are looking for an experienced software engineer to lead complex, high-impact initiatives across this space. In this role, you will set technical direction, build scalable systems and user-facing experiences, and turn ambiguous opportunities into measurable product improvements. You will work closely with engineering, product, design, and data science partners to improve web performance and quality, reduce friction across web and app journeys, and build reusable foundations that help teams move faster. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, with ownership from problem definition and architecture through implementation, experimentation, and production rollout.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical roadmap for a major Web Journeys problem area, balancing near-term product impact with long-term architecture and maintainability
• Design, build, and evolve end-to-end experiences and shared platforms across mobile web and web-to-app journeys, including discovery, navigation, authentication, and conversion
• Lead complex projects across teams, clarify requirements and dependencies, make technical tradeoffs, and drive delivery from design through launch
• Partner with product, design, and data science to identify opportunities, define success metrics, and evaluate improvements through instrumentation and controlled experiments
• Improve performance, reliability, and user experience across browsers and devices; diagnose production issues and strengthen testing, monitoring, and safe rollout practices
• Build reusable APIs and components that simplify partner integrations and reduce fragmentation across web and app experiences
• Mentor engineers, lead design and code reviews, and raise the team's technical judgment and engineering quality while remaining hands-on in implementation

Minimum qualifications

• Experience designing, building, and operating production software systems, with ownership of complex projects from problem definition through delivery
• Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages, with experience in developing web applications or backend services
• Experience with software architecture, API design, testing, and debugging across multiple components or services
• Demonstrated technical leadership: setting direction, making architectural decisions, and coordinating execution across engineers or teams
• Experience using data and instrumentation to diagnose issues, evaluate product or system performance, and guide engineering decisions
• Experience working through ambiguous problems and communicating technical decisions with engineering and cross-functional partners

Preferred qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
• Experience applying security, privacy, and accessibility principles to consumer-facing experiences
• Experience building large-scale consumer web products, particularly mobile web, with depth in browser behavior, client-server interactions, rendering, or web performance
• Experience in improving acquisition, activation, engagement, or conversion through product development and controlled experimentation
• Experience with deep linking, web-to-app navigation, authentication, and credential sharing
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
• Experience building shared platforms or leading migrations that enable multiple product teams while preserving reliability and user experience
