The Reality Labs Manufacturing Operations team builds the operational capabilities that take Meta's next-generation smart wearables, charging cases and AR/VR hardware into production at our global contract manufacturing partners. We work across engineering, operations and factory execution. We prepare factory sites, speed up production ramp, and drive technical quality from new product introduction through end of life.
As a Technical Program Manager Intern, you'll join our hardware operations organization and lead a project to design an optimized production line for charging case manufacturing. You'll work with Manufacturing Operations, Design for Excellence, Manufacturing Test Engineering, Industrial Engineering and contract manufacturer teams across multiple sites. You'll analyze factory data, evaluate line layouts and station cycle times, and propose a production line design that can serve as a benchmark for future device programs.
Responsibilities
- Analyze existing charging case production lines across contract manufacturer sites, mapping station dependencies, material flow, line length and floor space use.
- Gather and analyze factory data such as cycle time, unit cost, line balance and yield to set performance benchmarks for units per hour (UPH) and units per person hour (UPPH).
- Partner with automation vendors and factory engineering teams to find high-return automation opportunities, such as dispensing, curing, screw fastening and packaging, and build the technical and cost case for each.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing Operations, Design for Excellence, Manufacturing Test Engineering, Industrial Engineering and contract manufacturer engineering teams to align on specifications, line design proposals and schedules.
- Present a final line design proposal and baseline model to operations leadership.
Minimum qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Supply Chain Engineering or a related technical field
- Experience with manufacturing process mapping, line balancing, time studies or factory ergonomics, through coursework, research, projects or work experience
- Communication skills, including the ability to turn complex engineering data into clear recommendations
- Experience working with cross-functional teams across multiple locations
- Intent to return to full-time degree program after completion of the internship
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred qualifications
- Internship or research experience in high-volume consumer electronics, final assembly, test and pack (FATP), or surface-mount technology (SMT) manufacturing
- Familiarity with assembly automation, robotics, automated optical inspection (AOI) or test fixture integration
- Knowledge of operational metrics such as UPH, UPPH, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), cycle time, and first-pass and last-pass yield
- Experience using AI tools, such as workflow automation or scripting, to speed up program delivery or improve operations
- Ability to work independently and handle ambiguity in fast-paced hardware development cycles
