Summary of the Position

Tishman Speyer is seeking a Senior Associate, AI to join the firm’s AI team. Reporting directly to the Senior Director, AI, this individual will be a hands-on builder and the team’s primary delivery partner, taking ownership of AI projects from a loosely defined request through to a working solution that people actually use.

The AI team works across the firm, including Acquisitions, Debt & Capital Markets, Portfolio Management, Asset Management, Legal, Accounting, and Marketing, to find where AI can save time or improve decisions, and then build it. The work spans AI workflows and skills for enterprise assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT, document extraction and data pipelines on Databricks, internal AI applications, and the rollout, training, and governance needed to get those tools adopted safely.

The ideal candidate is analytically strong, technically capable, and comfortable being handed an ambiguous problem and coming back with a result. They use modern AI tools, including AI coding agents, as a core part of how they work, and they hold themselves to a high standard for checking their own output.

Examples of the Work

  • Turning an offering memorandum and underwriting model into a standardized investment one-pager and presentation slide in minutes rather than hours.
  • Extracting loan terms from financing documents into a governed deal ledger that replaces a manually maintained spreadsheet.
  • Building a searchable AI assistant over the firm’s historical investment committee materials.
  • Packaging a team’s recurring process as a reusable AI skill available in both Claude and ChatGPT.
  • Taking a business team’s request for a new AI connector or integration through security review, testing, and a phased rollout.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own delegated AI projects end to end: clarify the business problem with stakeholders, scope the approach, build, test, deploy, and support the solution after launch.
  • Design and build AI workflows, skills, agents, and connectors on enterprise AI platforms (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Model Context Protocol servers).
  • Develop document-extraction and data pipelines on Databricks (Python, SQL, PySpark, Unity Catalog, AI Functions, Vector Search) that turn unstructured documents into reliable, structured data.
  • Build and maintain internal AI applications and tools for business users, including Databricks Apps and lightweight web applications.
  • Measure AI output quality: assemble test sets from real examples, track accuracy, set thresholds for human review, and monitor results in production.
  • Manage intake and enablement of new AI tools, connectors, and integrations, partnering with Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, and Applications teams on security review, data-access approvals, and rollout.
  • Work directly with business teams to run discovery sessions, document current workflows, and quantify time saved and adoption once a solution is live.
  • Produce clear written materials, including design documents, one-page project summaries, status updates, training content, and how-to guides, for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Coordinate day to day with implementation partners and vendors, and track work through GitHub Issues and Projects.
  • Support AI education across the firm, including training sessions, new-hire presentations, and the firm’s AI use-case program.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or economics.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analytics, data engineering, data science, software development, or technology-focused consulting / digital transformation.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Hands-on experience building with large language models (e.g., Anthropic Claude, OpenAI), including prompt design, structured extraction, retrieval, agents, or workflow automation.
  • Regular, practical use of AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and working knowledge of Git and GitHub.
  • Experience with a cloud data platform; Databricks strongly preferred (Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog).
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including comfort with statistical reasoning and with measuring whether a solution is actually working.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Experience in real estate, investment management, or financial services is a plus, as is familiarity with commercial real estate documents (offering memoranda, rent rolls, leases, loan documents) and Excel-based financial models.
  • Experience with web application development (e.g., React, TypeScript, FastAPI).

Critical Competencies for Success

Ownership: takes a loosely defined request, asks the right clarifying questions up front, and delivers a finished result without needing step-by-step direction.

Judgment on when to escalate: surfaces decisions, risks, and blockers early rather than guessing.

Rigor: tests on real data and the real production path before calling something done, and reports results accurately, including what did not work.

Clear, concise communication: short status updates and plain-language explanations for senior, non-technical audiences.

Pragmatism: ships a working first version quickly and improves it, while respecting security, data governance, and confidentiality requirements.

Curiosity and speed of learning: keeps pace with a fast-moving AI landscape and evaluates new tools on practical business value.

Credibility with investment professionals and the ability to manage several stakeholders and projects at once.

Discretion with confidential deal, investor, and firm information.

On-site presence is required for this position.
