The Opportunity WorkCover Queensland is building a contemporary Claims Capability function focused on creating confident, capable claims professionals who are prepared for the realities of a fast-paced, performance-driven environment. As a Claims Capability Trainer, you’ll play an important role in that experience, delivering formal learning for new starters throughout their 12-week induction and onboarding journey, as well as ongoing development for experienced team members.
This is much more than presenting content or working through a PowerPoint. You’ll create a professional, engaging learning environment where people can turn technical knowledge into practical capability. You’ll set clear expectations, guide learners through real-world application and observe their progress, providing constructive feedback on both skills and behaviours. You’ll need the confidence to manage different personalities and learning needs while maintaining engagement and professionalism in the room.
Variety and adaptability are important. Trainers may move between different learning streams and content, so you’ll be comfortable picking up a module, understanding the material and confidently facilitating it without needing to rely on a familiar program. Drawing on your own technical experience, you’ll bring content to life in a way that is practical, relevant and credible, while working collaboratively with the broader Claims Capability team to continuously strengthen the learner experience.
About You You’re a confident, polished and engaging facilitator who understands that great training is about much more than knowing the content. You can read a room, keep a group focused and create the right balance between an approachable learning experience and a professional environment with clear expectations. You’re comfortable observing learners closely, providing meaningful feedback and helping people develop the practical skills, behaviours and confidence they need to succeed in their roles.
You’ll be adaptable, dynamic and enthusiastic, with the ability to work independently and move confidently across different modules and learning streams as priorities change. You communicate complex or technical information in simple, learner-friendly ways rather than simply reading from training materials, and you know how to connect learning with what people will actually experience on the job. You’ll bring experience in workers’ compensation or life insurance, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the credibility to work effectively with learners and internal stakeholders in an environment where expectations are high and performance matters.
How do I apply? If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a one-page cover letter outlining the strengths, experience and personal qualities you would bring to the Claims Capability Trainer role. As part of the selection process, we’d also like you to prepare a short 3–5 minute presentation . Choose a concept or process, for example a recent change in our claims environment, and explain it as though you were delivering it to a group of learners who are brand new to the role and the skill.
In your presentation, demonstrate how you would: Break down the concept into clear, digestible parts. Use simple, learner-friendly language. Connect the concept to real-world claims practice. Check for understanding and create engagement. Support different learning needs and styles. You can choose how you’d like to present: Recorded: Record your 3–5 minute presentation and include a link to the recording in your cover letter; or Face-to-face: Deliver your 3–5 minute presentation in person as part of the selection process.
Whichever option you choose, we’re interested in seeing your facilitation style and how you create an engaging, practical and professional learning experience.
