Engineers at CheQ are true builders. They bring in a myriad of ideas, and create the infrastructure,systems and products that drive our services. Our engineers build Zero to One products,microservices, DBs and everything else (from farm to table).With their magic they take a product, feature or experience from ideation to production, always keeping the customers and their interests in mind. This includes understanding consumer & business needs, critiquing & challenging product and design counterparts and owning the execution & delivery of the scope.

What you’ll be doing

• We are much more than our job descriptions, but here is where you will begin:
• Lead a small team of frontend engineers building CheQ's web experience, from our credit dashboard and onboarding flows to AI-driven personalisation surfaces, while staying hands-on in the codebase (around 50–60% of your time).
• Own the technical design of key features: break down requirements, write design docs, and set the implementation approach for the team.
• Write production-quality React and TypeScript code, and set the standard for component quality, test coverage and code reviews.
• Drive improvements across our design system, performance (Core Web Vitals, lazy loading, code splitting) and mobile-first web infrastructure, working closely with the Engineering Manager and senior engineers.
• Own frontend security in your area: apply Content Security Policies, guard against XSS, CSRF and clickjacking, and keep third-party dependencies safe.
• Partner with product managers, designers and backend engineers to scope work, estimate timelines and flag technical risks early.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews and design discussions, and help interview frontend candidates as the team grows.

What you’ll need

• Like us, you’ll be deeply committed to delivering impactful outcomes for customers.
• 7+ years of frontend engineering experience, including at least 1–2 years leading a team or owning a major product area as a tech lead.
• Deep hands-on expertise in React.js, TypeScript, HTML5/CSS3 and mobile-first responsive web development.
• Experience with state management, design systems or component libraries, and build tooling such as Webpack, Vite and npm.
• A solid grasp of web performance, Core Web Vitals, and cross-browser and cross-device behaviour (iOS Safari, Chrome Mobile and others).
• Working knowledge of frontend security: CSP configuration, XSS and CSRF prevention, secure authentication flows, and dependency scanning (npm audit, Snyk), with awareness of the OWASP Top 10.
• Comfort with testing (unit, integration, end-to-end) and CI/CD pipelines.
• A track record of mentoring engineers and raising code quality through reviews.
• Clear communication with product, design and backend partners.
• Experience in a high-growth startup or product company; fintech or consumer apps is a plus.
