What you’ll be doing

  • We are much more than our job descriptions, but here is where you will begin:
  • Lead, grow, and retain a team of frontend engineers building CheQ's web experience — from our credit dashboard and onboarding flows to AI-driven personalisation surfaces.
  • Own frontend engineering delivery — set clear expectations, unblock teams, manage timelines, and drive accountability without micromanaging.
  • Partner with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to translate complex requirements into executable frontend engineering plans.
  • Drive architecture and design decisions across our React.js ecosystem, design system, performance strategy, and mobile-first web infrastructure — in close collaboration with staff and principal engineers.
  • Establish and uphold frontend engineering best practices: component quality, test coverage, CI/CD, accessibility (WCAG), Core Web Vitals, cross-browser compatibility, and code review culture.
  • Own the frontend security posture — enforce Content Security Policies (CSP), drive security reviews, and ensure the team proactively addresses common frontend vulnerabilities including XSS, CSRF, clickjacking, and third-party dependency risks.
  • Actively recruit, interview, and onboard top frontend engineering talent as the team scales.
  • Create an environment where engineers grow fast, feel ownership, and do the best work of their careers.
  • Represent frontend engineering in cross-functional planning, surfacing technical risks and dependencies early and clearly.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, and relentless craftsmanship — from pixel-perfect UI to blazing-fast load times.

What you’ll need

  • Like us, you’ll be deeply committed to delivering impactful outcomes for customers.
  • 8+ years of frontend engineering experience, with at least 2–3 years in an engineering management or tech lead role.
  • Strong technical foundation in modern frontend — deep hands-on background in React.js, TypeScript, HTML5/CSS3, and mobile-first responsive web development; you can meaningfully engage in component design, architecture reviews, and code quality discussions.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling high-performing frontend engineering teams in fast-paced, product-driven environments.
  • Experience driving frontend architecture decisions — design systems, component libraries, performance optimization strategies (lazy loading, code splitting, caching), and build tooling (Webpack, Vite, NPM).
  • Deep understanding of Core Web Vitals, mobile web performance, cross-browser and cross-device compatibility (iOS Safari, Chrome Mobile, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of frontend security best practices — Content Security Policy (CSP) configuration, XSS and CSRF prevention, secure authentication flows, dependency vulnerability management (npm audit, Snyk), and awareness of OWASP Top 10 in a web context.
  • A people-first leadership style: you invest in your team's growth, give direct feedback, and foster a no-ego culture.
  • Strong project management instincts — you know how to prioritize ruthlessly, manage dependencies, and keep delivery moving without sacrificing quality.
  • Excellent communicator who can translate technical complexity for product and design stakeholders, and vice versa.
  • Experience at a high-growth startup or enterprise software company — you're comfortable with ambiguity and energized by 0-to-1 challenges.
