TopResume Review 2026: I Paid $149 for the Rewrite

TopResume's free review is a sales funnel, and my $149 rewrite came back generic and weakly tailored. It lost to Teal's free output; here are better options.

TopResume is a legitimate resume writing service, but I would not pay for its entry-level rewrite. I paid $149 for the rewrite, and it came back generic and weakly tailored, and it underperformed what I got from Teal's free tools. The free resume review is mainly a sales funnel. This TopResume review covers what you get, what it costs in 2026, and who might still find it worth the money.

What Is TopResume?

TopResume is one of the largest resume writing services in the United States, founded in 2014, with a network of more than 1,200 writers. You fill in a questionnaire about your history and goals, TopResume matches you with a writer for your industry and level, and the first draft usually arrives in 7 to 10 business days, followed by revisions. Some writers hold certifications from groups such as the Professional Association of Resume Writers, although not all of them do.

Pricing and Packages

The basic rewrite cost $149 when I bought it. As of September 30, 2026, TopResume lists four packages: Professional Growth at $179 for a resume, Career Evolution at $229 for a resume and cover letter, Career Confidence at $349, which adds a LinkedIn makeover and one interview coaching session, and Executive Priority at $599, which adds a second coaching session and a more senior writer pool. Every package includes a 60-day interview guarantee, which promises a free rewrite if you do not get an interview within 60 days, and the guarantee has conditions you should read before buying. TopResume runs frequent promotions, so the price you see may be lower.

TopResume's packages now also include access to a career platform that it says offers job matching and an auto-apply feature. If you are weighing that against other services that apply for you, our guide to paying someone to apply to jobs compares the options.

The Free Resume Review

The free review is usually the first contact. You upload your resume, and within about 48 hours you receive an analysis of formatting, keywords, ATS compatibility and impact. The feedback can point you to real fixes, such as weak verbs or formatting that confuses applicant tracking systems, but it is designed to highlight weaknesses and sell the paid rewrite, and the follow-up marketing emails are frequent. For free feedback that is more specific, Teal or Jobscan will usually serve you better.

What We Like

  • The writer network is large. More than 1,200 writers means you can usually get someone who knows your industry.
  • The interview guarantee is a real commitment. A free rewrite if the resume does not produce an interview gives you some protection, even with its conditions.
  • ATS formatting is built in. Writers format for applicant tracking systems, which helps if your current resume parses badly.
  • The turnaround is standard. A first draft in 7 to 10 business days matches industry norms, and rush options cost extra.

Where It Falls Short

  • Quality depends on your writer. My entry-level rewrite came back generic, and you have little control over which writer you get.
  • The tailoring is weak at the lower tiers. The draft read as though it could fit many people in my field, which defeats the purpose of paying a human.
  • The cover letters are templated. They are competent, but they rarely do the heavy lifting a career change or gap explanation needs.
  • Communication is slow and written. The lower tiers rely on the portal, which makes nuanced career decisions harder to explain.
  • The upselling is persistent. After the free review, expect frequent emails pushing a paid package.

Who Should Use TopResume?

TopResume can make sense for senior professionals who want the full package and are willing to pay for a higher tier, and for people who will never write their own resume. It is a weak value for early-career candidates with simple histories, who can get similar or better results from Teal, Rezi or Jobscan with some self-editing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does TopResume cost?

As of September 30, 2026, TopResume's packages cost $179, $229, $349 and $599, and every package includes a 60-day interview guarantee. The basic rewrite cost $149 when I bought it, and promotions often lower the listed price.

Is TopResume's free review worth it?

The free review is mainly a sales tool that points out problems and recommends a paid rewrite. Its feedback is generic, and AI tools such as Teal or Jobscan give more specific suggestions for free or for less.

Is TopResume worth it?

In my experience, the entry-level rewrite was not worth it, because the $149 draft came back generic and underperformed Teal's free output. A higher tier may be worth it for senior candidates who want a writer to handle everything.

What are good TopResume alternatives?

For do-it-yourself resumes, Teal and Rezi offer AI tools at a lower cost, and Jobscan is focused and affordable for ATS optimization. For a more personal service, Final Draft Resumes builds the resume around a 90-minute interview.

The Bottom Line

TopResume is real and widely used, and its guarantee is more than most competitors offer. My $149 rewrite was still generic, and I got better results from free tools, so I would only consider the higher tiers, and only if you truly do not want to write your own resume.

A strong resume also only helps if it reaches the employer early. Once your resume is ready, Sniper can send it to new matching jobs on company career sites minutes after they post, and on the Sniper plan you can upload up to 100 resumes and let it pick the best fit for each job. Your first 25 applications are free.
