6 Wellfound Alternatives for Startup Jobs (2026)

Volume down 40% since AngelList split. 6 startup platforms over 6 weeks: YC Work at a Startup, Scoutify Sniper (auto-apply), Otta, Built In and 2 more.

ByJules Lemée|Founder of Scoutify

The best Wellfound alternatives are YC's Work at a Startup for finding early-stage startup jobs and Scoutify's Sniper for applying to them early, with Welcome to the Jungle, Built In, HiringCafe and LinkedIn each covering a narrower need. Wellfound is still the first place most people look for startup jobs, but it covers only part of the startup world and it will not help you apply early, while Sniper auto-applies for you minutes after a company posts a role on its own careers page. If you have been looking for sites like Wellfound, these are the six worth your time, and the verdict is at the end.

Why people look for Wellfound alternatives

Wellfound, which was AngelList Talent until it spun out in November 2022, is good at a few specific things. Listings show salary ranges and equity up front, your profile doubles as your application, and Wellfound says applications go straight to founders and hiring managers. It says 27,000+ startups hire there, and it is free for candidates. Our Wellfound review covers the platform itself.

The reasons people go looking for other platforms like Wellfound are practical:

  • It only covers startups, so if you would also take a role at a public tech company or a large non-tech employer, most of those jobs are not there.
  • It is one pool among several: 27,000 startups is a lot, but HiringCafe indexes 142,896 companies and Built In lists 100K+, and not every startup cross-posts its openings to Wellfound.
  • It does not apply for you, because one-click apply saves typing but you still have to find each role and click, one at a time.
  • Its alerts are batched emails rather than real-time notifications, which matters for competitive roles that fill quickly.
  • Its coverage skews toward San Francisco and New York.

These are the six best startup job boards and tools like Wellfound, starting with the one that applies for you.

1. Scoutify: Sniper auto-applies minutes after a company posts

Scoutify is AI job search that applies for you first. It watches 70,000+ company career pages directly, including those of more than 1,400 YC-backed companies and thousands of larger employers, and its Sniper plan turns that into applications. When a new job passes your filters (role, location, experience level and visa sponsorship), Sniper fills in the company's real application with your resume and submits it, minutes after the job posts on the company's own careers page.

Scoutify fits startup searches best at companies that hire through Greenhouse, Ashby or Lever, which many venture-backed startups use. Sniper applies on Greenhouse today, along with Workday and SmartRecruiters, and Ashby and Lever are still rolling out, so for some startups on those two systems you will get an alert and apply yourself for now. Sniper sends up to 500 applications a week, picks the best of up to 100 resumes for each job, never applies to the same posting twice and never logs in to LinkedIn. Most applications get the employer's own confirmation email (68% from August 27 to September 25, 2026, with a median of 1.2 minutes after submission), and those confirmations and every reply land in Scoutify Mail.

The advantage over Wellfound is speed and breadth. Wellfound's batched email alerts arrive hours after a posting goes live, while Scoutify alerts typically arrive within 5 to 15 minutes, and Sniper does not wait for you at all. Scoutify also covers the full range of tech companies, from seed-stage startups to the largest employers, which gives you a wider view than a startup-only catalog. What it does not do is show equity or put you in touch with founders, so do that part on Wellfound and let Scoutify handle the timing.

Sniper costs $25 a week, and your first 25 applications are free with no card. If you only want the heads-up, Scoutify's instant job alerts from company career pages cost $5 a week and push new matches to iOS, Android, macOS or Windows within minutes. The job board is free to browse, and the details are on the pricing page.

2. Y Combinator's Work at a Startup: one profile for YC companies

Work at a Startup is YC's own job board, and it only lists YC companies. The YC stamp is a specific quality signal, because these companies passed YC's selection process. One profile works like a common application across all of them, founders can message you directly, and you can browse privately if you already work at a YC startup.

The listings carry details other boards skip. Many show a salary range, an equity range (for example 0.05% to 0.10%), the minimum experience and the company's visa stance, such as "Will sponsor" or "US citizen/visa only." That visa field makes it one of the most useful startup boards for international candidates, and for more sponsor-friendly roles you can also use Scoutify's H-1B jobs pages. The limit is built in: a startup without YC backing will not be listed, and thousands of good startups raised money from other investors. The catalog is smaller than Wellfound's, but the signal is strong, and Work at a Startup is free.

3. Welcome to the Jungle (formerly Otta): curated matches

If your searches for Otta vs Wellfound keep landing on Welcome to the Jungle, that is because Otta now runs under that name. Welcome to the Jungle bought Otta in January 2024, and otta.com redirects there. It still works the Otta way: you tell it what you like, and it shows your top matches instead of an endless feed.

It is Wellfound's closest competitor in startup job search, with a strong presence in both the US and UK. Where Wellfound gives you a browsable marketplace, it curates batches of matches based on role type, company stage, values and compensation, which reduces the effort of searching but limits what you discover outside your stated preferences. It covers a wider range of company sizes ("from startups to tech giants," in its own words) and puts more into company research, with salary, reviews and an editorial take on each employer. Its US site lists 3,500+ companies and 70,000+ live jobs, while Wellfound stays ahead on equity details and direct founder contact. It is free, and you can read more in our Otta review and our Otta vs Scoutify comparison.

4. Built In: startup and tech jobs by city

Built In goes well beyond startups. It lists 500K+ jobs at 100K+ companies and runs local sites for tech hubs such as New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Austin, Seattle and Boston. Most listings show a salary range, company profiles cover benefits and culture, and there is a free application tracker.

If you are choosing between Wellfound and Built In, the difference is focus. Wellfound is startup-only and built around equity and founder access, while Built In mixes startups with established employers and is organized by city, which helps if you are not open to relocating. Built In is free for job seekers.

5. HiringCafe: the biggest free index, with a funding-stage filter

HiringCafe collects jobs from employer career sites across every industry, and on September 28, 2026, its homepage counted 4,299,351 jobs at 142,896 companies. For startup hunters, the useful part is the Stage & Funding filter, which narrows that pool by company stage, next to filters for salary, experience, company size, founding year and remote work.

It is free and ad-free, it says it filters out recruiting agencies, and its Talent Agent sends you matches every day. It does not show equity, and you apply on each company's site yourself. Our guide to HiringCafe alternatives compares it with Indeed and others.

6. LinkedIn Jobs: for recruiter reach

LinkedIn is not a startup board, but startup recruiters and founders source candidates there, so a complete profile can bring in messages without you applying at all. LinkedIn also lists roles from some startups, although its coverage of early-stage companies is less complete than Wellfound's, and for mid-stage and late-stage startups the two overlap a lot.

On Wellfound vs LinkedIn for startup jobs, LinkedIn has far more jobs and recruiters, while Wellfound shows equity on its listings and sends your application to founders and hiring managers directly. LinkedIn's job alerts come daily or weekly by email or app notification, you can keep up to 20 alerts at once, and in practice a new role often reaches you 24 to 72 hours after it was posted. LinkedIn is free, and Premium is an optional upgrade from $29.99 a month; see our LinkedIn Jobs review.

Also worth bookmarking: VC portfolio job boards

Many large venture firms run a job board for their portfolio companies, and if you like a firm's taste, its board works as a pre-filtered startup list. Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia, Accel, Lightspeed and General Catalyst all have one.

Which Wellfound alternative is best?

If you want one answer, YC's Work at a Startup is the best Wellfound alternative for finding startup jobs, and Scoutify's Sniper is the best for applying to them early. They solve different problems, so the strongest setup uses both, with Wellfound alongside for equity research.

  • For early-stage startups with visa and equity details, use Work at a Startup.
  • For applications sent minutes after a role posts, at startups and bigger companies, use Scoutify's Sniper.
  • For a short, curated list, use Welcome to the Jungle, which is the closest equivalent to Wellfound's curated startup experience and has better UK coverage.
  • For tech jobs in one city, use Built In.
  • For every industry, filtered by funding stage, use HiringCafe.
  • For recruiters coming to you, use LinkedIn.

A routine that works is to research companies on Wellfound and Work at a Startup, set your Scoutify filters for the roles you want, and let Sniper apply as new ones post. That pairing gives you the startup context to make good decisions and the speed to apply before roles fill up, and it saves your own time for warm intros and short notes to the founders you most want to work with.
